Virtual Small Dog Rescue Provides Real World Care
Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007
Atlanta’s Small Dog Rescue and Humane Society matches little foster dogs with new owners in the North Metro Atlanta area. The group holds public adoption days, and these should always be confirmed on their web site before visiting the adoption meeting site.
Fosters live with volunteers. Interested adopters can meet the dogs every Saturday from noon till 4:00 PM, in front of the Petco at 5938 Roswell Road N.E., Atlanta, GA 30328.
Small Dog Rescue’s number is 404-705-PAWS. It is voice mail only and shouldn’t be relied upon for up to the minute responses.
Current adoptable small dogs include a Batang, a Bichon Frise / Maltese, Burt Lancaster, a Pug / Chihuahua, Gus Golden Grahams, a Dachsund / Corgi, Jacob Marley, a Pomeranian mix, Justice, a Lhasa Apso mix, Kitchi, a Pug mix, Scottie Starfruit, a pure Shih Tzu, and many, many more. We might have missed a few in this list, so get the latest at the web site. This shelter needs volunteers for fostering, transporting, screening and fundraising. They say: “If you would like to be part a fun group of dog-crazy individuals, consider becoming a volunteer.”

To protect their fostered dogs the Cahns have a strict application process. Adopting adults must be over 25. Household children must be over 11. Adopters must have established households that are not likely to change. The Little Dog Rescue isn’t just a shelter, it’s a Little Doggie Fortification designed to protect its wards. They provide fierce protection for the small dogs in their care, and will only adopt out if the new parents prove they have the traits required to love and protect the dogs as well.
Nothing’s more pleasing on a business visit than meeting the Small Dog Welcoming Committee. Wal-Mart greeters usually try to make me take a shopping cart. Coco Chanel just gives wags and kisses.
